This house was built in 1911 by Rev. and Mrs. Henry Hunter. Rev. Hunter was pastor of Pole Branch Baptist Church in Tignall, Georgia and Gibson Grove Baptist Church in Washington, Georgia for 27 years. He also pastored in Milledgeville, Georgia. The couple had three daughters: Madeline, Mabel, and Thelma. Thelma married and had five children.
In 1995 Thelma’s youngest child, Kay Frances Miller Finnell, acquired the house. After acquisition of the house, Kay and Eddie Finnell pursued renovation of the house. Although many thought the house was unrepairable, Kay pursued her dream of turning the house back into the house she remembered as a child.
The house was renovated in the summer of 2002 by Sim Dill, Jr. Construction of Washington, Georgia. After the renovation was completed, Kay and Eddie decided to pursue licensure to use the house as a bed and breakfast inn. Approval was granted and the Hunter-Finnell House Bed and Breakfast Inn was born. |
